Black History, Every Month
Run Your Race - Jesse Owens
Jesse Owens is an African American track and field athlete he who won four gold medals in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. His achievements challenged racial stereotypes and inspired generations of African Americans.
King Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong was a towering figure in jazz and a cultural legend. His distinctive gravelly voice and charismatic stage presence further endeared him to audiences worldwide. Armstrong played a pivotal role in breaking down racial barriers in America. As one of the first African American entertainers to achieve widespread popularity, he challenged prevailing stereotypes and paved the way for future generations of Black artists. Louis Armstrong's legacy transcends music; he was a trailblazer, a humanitarian, and a symbol of hope and resilience. We decided that Louis Armstrong deserved to be honored with the recognizable name King Louis because he represents what it is like to be a leader and king better than some of the other kings we learn about in schools.

Sick & Tired - Fannie Lou Hamer
Fannie Lou Hamer was one of the most prolific freedom fighters in history. During the American Civil Rights struggle she successfully fought for voting rights in the South, economic empowerment and political freedom. Hamer famously said “I'm sick & tired of being sick & tired” expressing a common frustration with postponed equity in America. We honor our ancestor Mama Hamer as the first t-shirt to relaunch Ragamuffin, February 2024.
